FALSE PRETENSE began in the late summer of 2003 as
CONSIDER THE OBVIOUS with Kriki, Jan and Flo.
It started as something to have lots of fun with and to see where it would
take them over the years. In the winter of 2003, Marc was introduced to the band.
After several practice sessions, it became immediately apparent to these four friends that
collaborating with each other was just like second nature. As for the key to their musical
relationship, the group sees it as a comprehensive, almost instinctive understanding of
each other's complexities.
From day one Marc could not only push the band creatively, but he improved the depth of their sound as well. He is all about the ideas, the structure and the big picture of the group. Kriki is a phenomenal drummer with great ground-breaking ideas that come within the blink of an eye - it's what the guys call flash of genius. Jan is more of a quite guy who always gives them an edge with what he does, while Flo is more about details and organization. They just all have a feel for each other's styles and found writing together to be quite a normal process.
As the quartet prepared for the
recording of their freshman-effort THE STRANDED EP, they put all their energy in becoming
something special. With two years and tens of thousands of late night rehearsals, their
sound has evolved into what they always wanted it to be: full-blown, guitar-driven,
electrifying melodic rock music! Ultimately, it is their sound that sets FALSE PRETENSE
away from the pack. Their obvious evolution as a band cannot only be witnessed in their
music - it can also be described with that magic word: Maturity. And FALSE PRETENSE have
no plan on slowing down.
With their line-up, vocalist and guitarist Flo Ambrosius,
guitarist Jan van Weyde, bassist Marc Ophoves and drummer Kriki Holtz, they are ready
to take the world by storm. And their latest effort DEAR ENEMY is a perfect launch to
do so. From day one you could almost see the stars in their eyes. Now that their
musical partnership is cemented for life, the boys are eagerly poised for what is next.
With great confidence and determination for their future, they will work hard to become
an up and coming band.
